What would you do if today was your last day?
Every day you wake up, you have the potential for greatness, and if you are doing things that don’t align with your potential you are leaving it all on the table.
Hey there,
Welcome back to the Dowur Post.
Ideas and inspirations to encourage you to do more of what matters in your life.
Weekly Reflection
Today, I bench pressed for the final time of my life
And as trivial as it might seem…it has had a profound impact on me.
Ever since I was a sophomore in college, I have loved weight lifting and everything there is to do with being in the gym.
It’s something that has provided me peace in the chaos and it is where I have made some of my best friends.
And the thought that I will be losing it is, honestly, one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with throughout this cancer journey.
As sad as it may seem, I’m continually reminding myself that the other outcomes are far worse.
Instead of a lifetime lifting restriction of 20-30 pounds, I could’ve been walking away with the inability to ever reach above my head…
Or even worse…
No arm at all.
So, all things considered, I can’t be too sad about the outcome.
There’s a time and a place to reflect on things emotionally, but you just have to pick yourself back up and keep moving forward.
Remember to consider the big picture and only worry about the controllable variables.
By focusing on the things in your control, you can take ownership over your position and continue to push.
By continuing the push forward, you will gain confidence and resilience that will take you far.
Brand Update
This week has been a week of reflection and planning for Dowur.
With my surgery coming up, most of the manufacturing is in a holding pattern until I come out the other side.
Meaning, over the last week most of my focus has been placed on the vision of the brand.
With so many brands in the world today, I believe it is more important than ever to have a purpose behind what you’re doing.
Since learning about my cancer and going through the entire hospital / surgical process, I have experienced first-hand how important athleticism is to keep your mind and your heart centered on what is important.
Fitness goes so much further than just looking good and I think that is something that is often overlooked.
As an athlete, when you experience hardship or you experience a setback, you understand that everything can be broken into daily actions.
And, even if you aren’t seeing progress in the day to day, you understand that you are moving towards the bigger picture faster than you think.
Everything can be equated back to this idea of the daily training schedule and being disciplined in your approach.
The vision for Dowur is to create a community of “do-ers” and a community of individuals who understand what it means to ‘Do What Matters’.
Every day you wake up, you have the potential for greatness, and if you are doing things that don’t align with your potential you are leaving it all on the table.
When you Do What Matters, you are taking charge of the day to day and attacking the battleground of life.
Every day will come with its challenges and we will all go through seasons of despair and hardship, but if you just follow your plan, you will come out the other side stronger than before.
You never know when your life will change irreversibly, so do everything you can now to avoid the regret of doing nothing with your life, when you had the chance.
Action Step
Start something new.
Too often we are afraid to be the beginner and to not know what we’re doing.
But, to be the person to walk into a room, knowing nothing and admitting it…
You provide yourself with the potential to learn the most from those around you.
So, tackle a new challenge this week - no matter the simplicity or the complexity, just get uncomfortable and try.
Until next time,
-Grant
